Totilas. How a Magnificent Stallion Became a Poor Creature.

Bee and the Horse

(rough translation from my German article)

It is not easy to be objective in the case of Totilas. I’m following the discussion about about this exceptional horse (in German we call him the ‘wonder stallion’) already for some years, and I must admit that I’m quite emotional about it, too. Totilas’ latest comeback under his rider Matthias Alexander Rath and the way he is trained has sparked yet another discussion about the black stallion, in both the real and the virtual world. Totilas seems to divide the horse community and is the subject of heated discussions.

How did the Totilas-hype develop at all? Let’s follow the steps of Totilas’ ‘career’.

Totilas was bred by Jan Schuil and Anna Schuil-Visser in Broecksterwald/ the Netherlands, where he also got his basic training. In 2005 Jiska van den Akker showed the five-year old at the World Breeding Championships for Young Horses at Verden, Germany, where Totilas was placed fourth in…

Ways to Treat Toe or Fingernail Fungus

Nail fungus is a challenge for any physician and a pain for each patient. You can easily get it, but it’s tough to get rid of it. And that small nail can give you lots of headaches, especially if the fungi are located in the fingernails. Regardless of the treatment you’ll use, it will take a few months until it will be cured as the nail grows slowly and no treatment will influence the state of the already damaged nail.

The most common ways to treat toe or fingernail fungi are:

– Oral medications such as Lamisil (Terbinafine), Sporanox (Itraconazole) or Diflucan (Fluconazole) – they are dangerous for people with stomach or kidney problems because you’ll have to take these strong drugs for at least 3-4 months. They have many side effects and usually they are very expensive too. Never take any medication if it’s not approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Oral medication doesn’t work for many people because they stop taking the pills too early in the process. That’s why you should be very determined to complete it once you start it. Otherwise it won’t give any significant results.

– Topical creams or antifungal nail polish – their efficiency is diminished by the fact that some of them can’t penetrate the nail well enough and therefore they can’t reach the fungi. A cream might prove to be totally ineffective for a patient, while it can cure another. That’s why you should firstly perform an thorough analysis of the nail in order to know exactly the type of fungi and the degree of the infection. A nail clipping that is sent to the laboratory for testing is the only way to confirm the clinical diagnosis.

– Laser treatment – it’s a new alternative that offers positive initial outcome. This treatment is usually costly as it takes many sessions to treat fungi with laser.

– Homeopathy – homeopaths can give you a custom plan to follow that will cure the infection in a gentle way, without any side effects. You’ll have to visit a specialized homeopath and give him all the details about your nail fungi. Homeopathy is a type of holistic medicine so the treatment will be highly personalized for your needs. The homeopathic treatment is free of any types of side effects, it’s highly effective and it’s not expensive either. You should definitely give it a try before getting anything else.

– Natural remedies – some people used various natural solutions such as apple cider vinegar, baking soda, grapefruit oil, tea tree oil and oil of oregano. This is the most inexpensive method. Some argue that it may be rather experimental, but all other options except for homeopathy have lots of side effects and the results aren’t guaranteed either. So you should try applying one of these remedies and then bandaging the nail throughout the day.
